Sven Rekkaro, Levira Technical Lead
Why do you think it is important to build a link between Universities & industry?
It is not just important, it is crucial to bring Universities and industry closer together. The industry provides the opportunity for students to apply their knowledge gained during the studies to the practical tasks or in other words, convert the theoretical knowledge into practical experience. On the other perspective, the industry benefits from supporting students and motivating them to make well-informed decisions and join the teams (either editorial or technical teams) in the industry.
Why did you want to get involved?
On Air provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with interesting and skilful people around the Globe. Also, it is important to me personally to give back to society, especially the youth.
What are you most excited about?
Again, it's a pleasure to work together with all these brilliant people, and of course, to see the On Air channel live in October.
What do you think the biggest skills challenges & changes are going to be over the next couple of years?
The biggest challenge is keeping pace with the evolution of technology and avoiding the traps introduced by industry hypes. Another aspect is security—in today's world, everything is connected, therefore vulnerable to malicious intent. It is equally essential to build systems and platforms with security in mind, as they must be both functional and efficient. The demarcation lines between technical roles fade; today’s media engineer needs good skills in audio-video, IP networking, infrastructure and software development to make great things happen.
What do students have to look forward to?
A one-of-a-kind opportunity to collaborate with people from multiple continents and create a live TV program visible to every person with internet access worldwide.
What do you think the industry will gain from being involved in On Air?
Increased visibility and popularity of the industry to attract young talents– live TV has many roles and positions that are often hidden from the daily content viewer.
