Russell Trafford-Jones: TechEx Lead

Why do you think it is important to build a link between Universities & industry?

What do you think the industry will gain from being involved in On Air?

Sometimes it feels we forget that there are students learning broadcast around the world and lots of universities working hard to spread the word about these degrees with exceptional employment statistics. Tightening the relationship between academia and industry can only help more people find their place in this industry which has such high job satisfaction.

Why did you want to get involved?

I love televising live events as they showcase so much of why the live media & entertainment industry is really fun – though exhausting – to work for. For me, to enjoy making a show whilst helping showcase the next generation of technical and creative talent is a no-brainer.

What are you most excited about?

Live broadcasts are always a great buzz but on top of it all, we’re going to see programming from around the world which will impress everyone at how professional it is despite the students being so early on in their careers.

What do students have to look forward to?

Students on broadcast and live events degrees love producing challenging shows and thrive off collaboration. This is a great way to bring people together across different degrees and departments for a high-profile event.
